Acting pro bono for the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association (BCCLA), on July 31, 2024 Kyle Thompson, Laésha Smith, and Ben Clarke successfully obtained leave to intervene from the BC Supreme Court in the injunction hearing of Vancouver Island University v Sara Kishawi et al, heard on August 8, 9 and 14, 2024.

On intervention, the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association made submissions regarding the proper application of Charter values and how the common law should evolve to reflect the impacts of injunctions on the core Charter rights of freedom of expression and freedom of assembly.
